We created this fire pit area here, and we wanted to have this look of a real fire pit. It is a gas fire pit with a gas line to it but it has these ceramic logs in here. It's built up of concrete blocks and it has a bluestone cap on it and these ledge stones, stone veneer.
Fire pit size and spacingThe height of the fire pit is 20 inches, so that is a good height for the heat to hit you in a good place and you can use it as a table; you can put your feet on it. The spacing that you need for a fire pit like this -- the fire pit is about 5 feet in diameter -- and you need like 15 by 15 feet of space and here you have seven chairs so you have a lot of room for a lot of people.
Lighting considerationsThese are actually made of recycled milk cartons. When you put in a fire pit, it's going to likely be a place you use at night. So think about lighting there too. Do you want some lights? Do you want to hang lights from the trees, or have up lights around there so you can see a little bit when you're there too?
