Lake Winnipesauke Property Gets a Sustainable Landscape
Permeable pavers and ornamental plantings make this landscape attractive and green
This half-acre property was recently transformed with permeable pavers and a variety of plantings. Located on the shore of Lake Winnipesauke in Gilford, New Hampshire, it is owned by a retired couple who requested lots of color and year-round interest. The total budget for this project was around $100,000. We had the chance to talk with Steve Mitchell of Natures Elite Landscaping about the transformation, read on to find out what he shared.

“Because of the property’s location in what New Hampshire calls the shoreland protection zone, preventing runoff was a primary concern,” he says. In order to comply with the Impervious Surface Area Limitation, which states that no more than 30% of a lot should be covered with impervious materials, permeable pavers were selected. The stone walkways were also installed in a fashion that allows water to filter through the joints and return into the soil.
The pavers for the driveway are Belgard Subterra Stone. The color of the field is Chatham Beige and the border and aprons are done in Norvick Gray, while the circle is Belgard Mega-Bergerac in Charcoal Gray. “We are Belgard Authorized Installers as well as ICPI Certified Installers and a New Hampshire Certified Landscape Professional,” says Mitchell.
“Forgoing grass was a personal preference of the homeowners, they felt that plantings would add more interest through the seasons,” mentions Steve. The property was planted with a large assortment of perennials, deciduous shrubs, trees and more.
