Landscape Designers
Working with and hiring a landscape designerA landscape designer will help you create a plan that includes plants and hardscapes. Grace Design Associates in Santa Barbara, CA.
A landscape designer will help you come up with a plan for your outdoor spaces. Such a plan will include design treatments for plant materials as well as hardscapes and structures. Landscape designers will have knowledge of both horticulture and landscape construction materials, thus equipping them to generate creative ideas for your yard and plan the layout of plants and features.
Many landscape designers will manage your landscaping project from design to completion. They will sub out pieces of the work to local contractors. Designers typically have a vast knowledge of resources in the area. Clarify with your designer that they are indeed willing to manage the construction for you. Some larger, more established design companies may handle design and construction in house. Design/Build companies like this employ their own construction crews.
There are no certification or education requirements to become a landscape designer. However, many designers do hold degrees or certificates. This means that you will need to do your research on any designer you are considering. Ask to see landscape plan samples and photos of their previous designs. You may even ask for references to call.
