We'd like to congratulate the landscape firms honored recently by the American Society of Landscape Architects. Seven U.S. projects were recognized with Honor Awards in the Residential Design category. These projects exemplify a high quality of design and execution as well as environmental sensitivity.

This sloping front yard, located on a suburban street, was once neglected and unused land. The re-imagined landscape focuses on sustainability and the creation of public and private spaces.

This property, located just outside Grand Teton National Park, weaves modern aesthetics with a rustic environment. A number of usable outdoor spaces were created surrounding the existing home.

Nestled within a 4,000 acre ranch in New Mexico, this property boasts views of native grass prairies and panoramic mountain ranges. The new outdoor living environment serves as an extension of the residence.

Reed Hilderbrand in Watertown, MAReed Hilderbrand, Watertown, MA
The landscape surrounding this modernist house from the '60s was seriously degraded. Changes were made over the course of seven years that respect its heritage, create a comfortably domestic character, and demonstrate lasting stewardship of the land.

Facing the Atlantic and straddling a ridge, this family farm is located in southern Rhode Island. The property owners requested a design that functions both as a family compound and a working farm.

- Constructed wetland
- Predominately native, low-maintenance plant palette

Reed Hilderbrand in Watertown, MAReed Hilderbrand, Watertown, MA
The owners of this Stockbridge, MA property wanted to make efforts toward greater stewardship of their land. In the process they got a boardwalk which allows them to enter a 50-acre marsh which previously was completely inaccessible.
Project Highlights:
- 2,700 foot long boardwalk that curves and bends through the marsh
- Two viewing platforms
- Locally-milled hemlock planking for the decking surface
- Limited disturbance of wetland during construction
- No machines or heavy equipment used
- Removal of invasive species
- Increased wildlife activity
- Motion sensitive camera to document wildlife
